Early Life and Career
Joaquin Rafael Bottom, known professionally as Joaquin Phoenix, was born on October 28, 1974, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He is the middle child of Arlyn Dunetz and John Bottom, and is the brother of actors River Phoenix and Summer Phoenix.
Phoenix began his acting career as a child, appearing in the television series "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" in 1982 and "Murder, She Wrote" in 1985. He made his film debut in 1986's "SpaceCamp" and has since starred in a wide range of films, including "My Own Private Idaho" (1991), "Gladiator" (2000), "Walk the Line" (2005), and "The Master" (2012).
